Summer Scavenger Hunt - Last post

This is my sixth and final posting in the summer photo scavenger hunt series a today is link-up day, if you click on the "Summer photo scavenger hunt" label you'll find all my posts on the theme. The hunt has been kindly hosted by Mary-Lou over at Patio Postcards and has been running for a couple of months. Please pop over to her blog for the last link-up page. I didn't quite manage the full set again but thoroughly enjoyed the hunt.

3. Repetition
These strong metal cloches were given to us when a friend gave up their plot and are great for protecting seedlings from pigeons. Laid side by side they make a satisfyingly even pattern.

15. Broken bench
The common area at the allotment has this decrepit old bench and lots of chairs as well as a newly built barbecue area that any plot holder can use. The bench is decidedly rickety and has lost it's seats but serves as a collection point for spare plants, pots or other its and pieces that we may not be able to use but other plot-holders might have a use for.

17. A sail. Revisiting the windmill painting for this one.

18. Something that should be found in pairs

This pigeon seems to have lost it's companions from earlier in the year so I think it counts as should be in a pair. He conveniently came around this morning before the rains set in.

Substitute B Fresh local produce for 1. An outdoor clock

Spoilt for choice this year but we have a wonderful crop of butternuts & uchiki kuri squashes that I couldn't resist sharing - all now hardening off in the kitchen.

Summer photographic scavenger hunt #5

My fifth posting in the summer photo scavenger hunt series, if you click on the "Summer photo scavenger hunt" label you'll find all my posts on the theme.The hunt is hosted by Mary-Lou over at Patio Postcards and has been running for a couple of months, it's due to finish at the end of September so if you hurry you can still take part if you want to. 7. A curvy path. The road to our allotment (technically from our allotment as this was taken from our plot corner looking back towards the site entrance!)

11. Fish. When I was at middle school in the late 70s/ early 80s all of us had cooking and art as well as woodworking and metal working lessons but by the time we got to high school at 13 we were back to needlework and cooking for girls and workshop stuff for boys grrr,,,, Still I have this little fish I made back when I was about 10 or 11 and there must be hundreds of them kicking around homes on the Isle of Wight!

Alternate A. Bird box. We rediscovered during a clear out over the weekend, made by my Dad many years ago and put in a safe place whilst we found a permanent home for it. Made for blackbirds, robins and the like we think it will be best on one of the sheds at the allotment. (I'm unlikely to find a (number 19) round here)

Well that's 3 more down and 7 more images to find. I've almost 5 weeks to do it but we'll see.....

I'm lagging behind this month and have only come up with a couple of new ones, best get cracking if I want to find the rest before the end of September.


Number 5. The word Summer - harder than I expected but these are two books on the to-be-read pile better get on and read them before the season gets away from us!

Number 14 - A handwritten sign - this one marks our Happy Place and has to be re-drawn each year.

Today is my third picture posting in the new Scavenger Hunt which launched on 1st May, it's hosted by Mary-Lou over at Patio Postcards and will run until September so there is plenty of time if you want to join in.

4. Blurred Vision - So many possible candidates for this as I have a notoriously shaky hand when it comes to photographing. Here the butterfly decided to take off just as a bee came into land on the lavender giving blurred wings. Taken on 27th June.

9. A bridge  - this one is really modern and an interesting contrast in colours but it takes J back to Loughborough each Sunday, I'm a lot happier when he gets to come back again later in the week. Taken 16th June.

12. Something Crooked - looks precarious but serves a purpose - our comfrey and nettle tea bucket - free fertiliser for plants if you don't mind the smell. Taken 28th June

20. A favourite seasonal scent - the sensational scent of midsummer that is the first sweetpeas. These are so strong they might have to go in the kitchen rather than the loving room! Taken 28th June.

Summer Photographic Hunt - First link up and photo number 4

Mary-Lou from Patio Postcards posted the first round-up on 14th June and taking part is easy -  just follow the link to the list and let her know you are joining in by commenting on the post. 2. Single and Pretty.
So many options for this and unsurprisingly I went with a flower. The first poppy of the year opened on 6th June:

The 1st May saw the start of a new Scavenger Hunt, hosted by Mary-Lou over at Patio Postcards. She's intending to post a first round-up on 14th June but the challenge actually runs until September so there is plenty of time if you want to join in. So here's my first set of offerings...

8. Shells - collected from beaches in Greece, Spain, Cornwall, Dorset and the Isle of Wight surrounded by a necklace given to me by a young student that I taught in Greece many, many years ago.

10. Something made from stone - A gift from my very talented sister - it makes me smile every time I look at it.

13. Two colours of the Rainbow in any combination -Hard to pick just one for this one so you have two to pick from. First up,  one of my favourite late Spring combinations - the blue of the cornflower against the fresh green of lemon balm.

This second one is a gaillardia flower and its beautiful combination of yellow and red is like summer in a single bloom. So, pick your season!

New Scavenger Hunt

Today I discovered that a fellow blogger over at Patio Postcards has launched a Summer Photo Scavenger Hunt. The Winter one was great fun and got me back into using my camera so I'm looking forward to trying to find the items on this new list and getting a chance to see how everyone else interprets the list.
